Salina Eritrea started this petition to Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali and The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia

For more than eighty years, Eritreans suffered under successive colonial rules; African and European. While many African countries were given their independence at the end of second world war, The British and Americans decided to hand over Eritrea to the Ethiopians as a reward to the monarchy of Haile Sellasie, whom they had strategical relationship with. That was when Eritreans rose up and took over the gigantic task of eradicating this colonial rule in order to establish national independence as well as national dignity. Eritreans confronted an enemy that was militarily superior & completely unequaled head on only relying on their own capacity and the support of the people. This required heavy sacrifices, unimaginable adversity, vigilance, political maturity and resourcefulness.

Almost the whole world dismissed the Eritrean independence struggle as unachievable. But without being restricted to combating the gigantic colonial powers that was backed by external superpowers, the people’s front was not only instilling consciousness in the wider public, but also was laying a strong ground for an independent country. Many nations in Africa and other third world countries which started independence struggle had failed due to corrupt leaders, internal and external pressures; consequently became victims of all failures. Eritrea not only learned from these kinds of experiences, but also became adamant not to repeat the horrible experiences. It was not going to throw away all the costs and sacrifices and as a result condemn the future generations to further wars and suffering.

Eritreans finally achieved what they set out to achieve, and with mature and lawful disposition, they held a referendum that was witnessed to be one of the most transparent ever in which the entire population consciously and enthusiastically participated with 99.8% voted for national independence. The world perhaps has never seen such history of liberation movements and witnessed the political maturity of the people of Eritrea and its leadership.

The following generation took over a task of rebuilding & safeguarding a nation that was ravaged by continuous atrocities of colonial powers while celebrating the achievements of the heroic previous generation that handed them a strong foundation for peaceful independent and prosperous future. This generation never failed it’s promises either; they preserved the independence of their nation heroically by repulsing the successive attacks and invasions by the now eliminated servant clique TPLF.

Learning from past experiences in Africa, Eritrea’s struggle for independence was also a struggle to become a respected member of the international community; thus, by creating harmony and cooperation with its neighbors while contributing towards the regional and global harmony & development for that matter. Though TPLF became an obstacle to this sacred intention, Eritrea and the leadership remained consistent even during the unimaginable adversities without faltering to the extensive pressures from external forces. And now comes what Eritrea has been fighting for. Opportunity of regional harmony and development that can make Horn of Africa the breadbasket than a basket case, where nations can work and develop together instead of depending on handouts. This golden opportunity must be guarded and nurtured.

Horn of Africa nations, particularly Ethiopians must stand together with Eritreans and condemn anyone or anything that tries to derail this journey of hope. The irresponsible and disrespectful comments about Eritrea by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia spokesperson Ambassador Dina Mufti have not only angered Eritreans but also have to be dealt with with appropriate measures in order to maintain the positive relationship that has started between the two nations. These kinds of inflammatory comments can be dangerous if they are not dealt with accordingly. For this reason, Ambassador Dina Mufti must be removed from his post and be replaced by progressive and competent individual. This will be a responsible action and will strengthen the relationship of the two neighborly countries. We are calling on Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali and The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia to take the appropriate measures.
