Prevent under 18s from entering Greyhound tracks
Under Irish law you cannot buy a Lotto ticket or make a bet until you are 18 years of age. Under the Betting Act 1931 it is an offence for a child under age 18 to be in a bookmakers. Under the Gaming and Lotteries (Amendment) Act 2019, you must be 18 to engage in gaming at an amusement hall or funfair. Yet young children are being brought into greyhound racing tracks by their parents for nights out, and to celebrate communions or conformations where alcohol is served. Also, hen and stag parties take place at greyhound tracks where children are subjected to adult paraphernalia. The advertising of family packages at Irish greyhound tracks needs to end. Children under the age of 18 entering a greyhound track needs to end and to be made an offence. Gambling is a huge problem in society and children should not be subjected to it.
