Prevent the closure of Isabel Hospice at Hall Grove

Prevent the closure of Isabel Hospice at Hall Grove
The Issue
I have been a volunteer at Hall Grove, Welwyn Garden City, for the past nine years. During this time, I have had the privilege of witnessing the incredible care and support each member of staff provides to our patients. This dedicated team has been a lifeline for countless families who navigate difficult times, offering both care and support.
This invaluable service is now under threat, with plans to close the Isabel Hospice Living Well services at Hall Grove by the end of March 2026. Such an action would be a grave disservice to our community, leaving a void that no other facility could easily fill. Living Well at Hall Grove is not just a place—it's a lifeline for many, offering rehabilitation care and support to meet individual needs. The dedication of our staff is second to none, they always have time and care for everyone.
The need for care is increasing, as is the demand for high-quality, compassionate care. According to the National Council for Palliative Care, the UK's aging population means that such services will become even more essential in the coming years. Closing Living Well at Hall Grove during a time when such services are in growing demand is counterproductive and short-sighted.
Isabel Hospice has been serving the community for several decades, developing expertise and a level of care that is unmatched. We're not just asking to keep a facility open; we're asking to maintain a critical service that alleviates suffering and provides peace of mind to our patients during their most vulnerable moments.
Our compassionate communities team includes compassionate neighbours who reduce isolation, increase support networks and promote wellbeing. The team offers groups exercise such as tai chi and seated exercises. They provide bereavement peer support and promote early advanced care planning, this is a vital service in the community for lonely people, they have set up cafe’s and one to one support for people who have difficulty managing and being able to get out, we have seen what a positive impact this has on service users.
Our children’s service offers care and support for children who have been bereaved, this is very much a valued service for children and family members.
We call upon the decision-makers, healthcare authorities, and the local council to reconsider this closure. We need to explore alternatives, such as additional funding avenues or partnerships with other healthcare providers, to keep this essential service running.
By signing this petition, you stand with us to protect a vital community service. Join us in advocating for the preservation of Isabel Hospice at Hall Grove and ensure that it continues to serve those in need for years to come. Your signature can make a real difference in our fight to keep this essential service available to all.
