“Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, these ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”

~ Robert F. Kennedy, quoted by Sweetwater Nannauck
If we keep believing they know what they are doing when we can see the obvious destruction... then they'll keep destroying the planet!!

Lessening "our dependence on foreign sources of energy" is just a smokescreen. We should be lessening our dependence on fossil fuels, period.

I am signing because if the human species continues to destroy the earth so witlessly, we shall eventually destroy ourselves and the remaining creatures with whom we share this miracle of a planet, home to us all.

BP is the leading oil giant criminal in the world today. If you don't believe this based on their behavior, get more about them from investigative journalist Greg Palast in his book, "Vultures Picnic." Also keep in mind that Obama and his Interior Secretary Salazar are allowing the XL pipeline to go forward in stages, despite public opposition. There will be more oil spills and oil gushers poisoning the environment and killing people and wildlife because they don't bother to use proven cleanup techniques and cover them up instead with dispursants, like those used in the Gulf. Don't doubt that they care only about money, nothing else.

Off shore drilling should be totally banned by the United States (and all countries) in all waters. The current practice is and remains unsafe and is, ultimately, genocidal. Until the U.S. and all world governments along with the businesses involved in drilling and the oil companies themselves are able to create and sustain safe drilling practices with close independant monitoring (chosen by the EPA and paid for by the oil companies) with penaties that would severely tax any and all offenders, off shore drilling shouldn't be allowed.
