The state of Texas reported 313,000 victims of human trafficking in 2017 with 79,000 of these victims being children and/or minors. 73% of the overall reported cases were sexual. Though there are preventative methods and support for victims that have been implemented by the government, these operations have not been effective in solving this problem due to insufficient funding.
Sex Trafficking coerces young individuals into unimaginable and dehumanizing acts. These individuals are manipulated, threatened, raped, and sometimes even killed. This is a dark underworld that is not subjected to the street corners or alleyways that are depicted in Hollywood films. This is a world that has assimilated itself into society and masked their activities with tactics that are not evidently suspicious.
This is a salient issue that deserves attention by those who have the power to allocate government funding towards solving this problem. We ask people to sign this petition, so that lawmakers within the state of Texas realize that citizens are aware of its prevalence. We do not want this to be a problem that exists within our communities and we want the issue reformed. Join us as we demand more funding towards Sex Trafficking preventative efforts.
