Approximately 5 children die everyday due to child abuse. This petition was inspired by my personal experience with child abuse. I am very familiar with child abuse. My sisters and I were sent into foster care on two different occasions due to child abuse. I know what it feels like to be mistreated and to feel not loved by your own parents. My goal is to get people more aware of the maltreatment.

This links provides fact like below and ways to get involved to help reduce child maltreatment. On any given day, there are nearly 428,000 children in foster care in the United States due to maltreatment to their child.Children who experience child abuse and neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit violence crime.Abused children are less likely to practice safe sex, putting them at greater risk for STDs. They’re also 25% more likely to experience teen pregnancy.

My first time being sent to foster care, I was 6 years old and my sisters were 4 and 2. My parents fought with each other a lot and my dad was very abusive towards my mom, my sisters, and myself. It was then our neighbor who called and we were taking away because my parents were not fit to take care of us. Being in foster care is challenging and really gets into the child's head. For me, I was always scared to make new friends because I would just have to leave them because I was changing fosters homes so often. After that things just never felt the same. Some time later, my sisters and I were returned to only our mother. Then, the year of 2016, we were taken away again due to child abuse. Fortunately, I did not have to bare the struggle of being in foster care because I turned 18 and was able to age out. But with aging out, I gain new hardships through life, like being all alone and new to the adult world and not having anyone to help me with it. Although I was able to age out and not go through foster care, my sisters to this day (November 18, 2017) are still in foster care. My youngest sister, has many times attempted suicide and ran away from foster care because the way she has been treated. In March 2017 she was impregnated at the age of 14. Child abuse should be a priority because children are the next in our generation to take charge and take care of the Earth. The damage done to these children lead to an unwelcoming life and  of children.
