Taxpayers in Preston, Connecticut have experienced doubled taxes in two decades, representing current educational spending at the top 21% despite being in the bottom third for wealth. In 2013, Preston was ranked 10th out of all Connecticut towns for Superintendent expenses. A review of budget line items shows that in comparison to similar Connecticut towns, Preston has higher costs in a few key areas that are not student programs. Reducing the Superintendent position to 0.4FTE and including the Finance Director duties within the Superintendent position are industry norms for districts our size. Preston taxpayers ask the Preston Board of Education to place this topic/petition on their regular monthly and/or special meeting agendas for discussion and action until an applicable motion carries, preferably by January 2016 so sufficient time is allocated to all parties for the transition.
