FIGHT AGAINST ZOCDOC'S NEW "PRICING STRATEGY":UNFAIR PRICE GOUGING AGAINST LOYAL PROVIDERS

When Zocdoc was starting out, many thousands of physicians and psychotherapists took a chance and stood behind them and paid their $3000 a year fee to become a part of a growing company. Despite the fact that the platform does not really cater to psychotherapists, we continued to try and make the platform work for us, and I strongly urged other psychotherapist friends to join Zocdoc.
Recently Zocdoc decided to implement a new pricing system that is unfair, unjust and equivalent to price gouging. They want to charge each provider $60 for each patient that books through zocdoc, even if that patient cancels their appointment or doesn't show up to an appointment. THIS CAN BRING OUR $3000 a year fee to tens of thousands of dollars!!!! My practice alone would have had to pay close to $100,000 last year if this pricing system was in place. This is ludicrous!
Providers often find clients make appointments when the feeling of distress or illness is at it’s most intense. This distress often dissipates over time. Under the new system, if the patient booked a session and cancels after 24 hours, when they are feeling better. - the provider would still have to pay the fee and It is completely unfair to penalize the provider because the client changed their mind!
Also, Patients are almost always completely clueless as to how their insurance plans work. It is not unusual for IN network deductibles to be several hundred, if not thousand of dollars. ZocDoc, better than anyone, has the data on this. If a patient books an appointment and we verify their insurance, which often takes more than 24 hours to verify if insurance companies are not open on weekends... then the patient finds out they can't proceed because of the deductible. Does it seem right to you that providers should pay a charge when clients are not required to take any responsibility? HOW IS THIS FAIR TO US?
Not only does the new model seem VERY flawed but very unfair to your subscribers, the very people who pay you. The patients do not employ you or pay you, providers do. Why would it be okay to charge US when we cannot control the behavior of inconsiderate patients who don't respond to repeated attempts to confirm appointments, who are allowed to book appointments without all of their information verified by ZOCDOC, therefor putting all the responsibility on the provider to pay for complete strangers to make appointments and then disappear!
This would be the equivalent of buying a McDonald's Franchise and having to pay a fee to McDonald's Corporate Headquarters every time a customer walks through the door, looks at the menu or uses the bathroom and leaves without buying any food! Sounds preposterous when you apply this theory to another industry doesn't it?
Additionally, the $60 they want to charge us, even if the patient complete's the appointment, is about as must as we would get reimbursed by an insurance company. If the patient never comes back, we've actually paid out of pocket for this patient to be seen, since the insurance company won't reimburse enough to pay staff, rent, and the provider seeing the patient - that money would go to ZOCDOC instead.
Please Join me in committing to ZOCDOC that if they implement the new pricing system, that we will not renew our contracts or be a part of their system. We would rather see a fixed price increase for the year, then this ridiculous system that forces us to pay for cancellations we have no control over. We appreciate what ZOCDOC does for us, and we want them to make money, but this is NOT the way to go about it. An increase in yearly subscription, which allows us to budget for a known amount is much fairer than signing up for an unknown amount of fees that could make our practices go bankrupt.
PATIENTS WHO BOOK ON ZOCDOC: YOU TOO CAN SIGN THE PETITION IF YOU THINK THIS IS AN UNFAIR PRACTICE AND COMMIT TO NO LONGER USING ZOCDOC TO BOOK DOCTORS APPOINTMENTS IF ZOCDOC CONTINUES WITH THEIR PRICE GOUGING PRACTICE AGAINST PROVIDERS!
