Permanently exempt Puerto Rico from the Jones Act
This petition had 158 supporters
The time has come to repeal the outdated Jones Act, which was created in 1920 to benefit the US shipping industry at the expense of the people of Puerto Rico. The US Virgin Islands are already permanently exempted--why isn't Puerto Rico?! The humanitarian gesture by President Trump to suspend the Jones Act for 10 days is simply not enough.
It's time for President Trump to take executive action to help our fellow Americans who reside in Puerto Rico in their desperate hour of need, especially after the widespread devastation caused by recent natural disasters, and to offer them hope to grow their economy in the future.
Please sign my petition to respectfully request that President Trump repeal the Jones Act permanently.
