President Trump: Meet with trans students before abandoning them!
0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!
Less than 48 hours after Attorney General Sessions took over the Department of Justice, DOJ told a federal appeals court it might abandon its defense of the life-saving guidance on the rights of transgender students—even though most courts have agreed with the guidance. Hundreds of thousands of transgender students across the country, together with their families, are scared the Trump administration could be about to abandon defending their rights, safety, and dignity. While the Trump Administration cannot change federal law, eliminating the Title IX guidance would empower bullies and promote discrimination.
Before taking such an action, President Trump, Attorney General Sessions and Secretary DeVos should meet with transgender students and their families to hear their stories.
To President Trump, Attorney General Sessions, and Secretary DeVos:
As transgender students and former students, and as parents, family members, teachers, and allies of transgender students, we are asking you to meet with transgender students and their families to hear their stories before deciding not to enforce Title IX for all students.
Transgender young people are extraordinary and brave. Please listen to their stories.
