As we cope with the continuing threat of Covid-19, we need to be advocating on behalf of our most vulnerable neighbors, friends and family members, particularly those who are homeless or have unstable housing and are being threatened with the plight of homelessness during a time when many people are stocking up on food and supplies and sheltering in place. Many in Chicago, Illinois, and all over the United States have voiced the concern that, during this crisis, evictions, and forclosures even where there is just cause, will unnecessarily exacerbate risk of infection for these neighbors and our community at large. I would strongly urge the President of the United States, the Governor of Illinois and all governor's in every state, the Mayor or Chicago along with every mayor of every city to place an immediate moratorium on evictions and foreclosures as a compassionate and effective response to this crisis. Put our people first!!!
