Black Studies at The Culinary Institute of America

Black Studies at The Culinary Institute of America
Why this petition matters
Students at The Culinary Institute of America are required to take a history course during their time at the school. The history courses that are offered include The History and Cultures of the Americas, The History and Cultures of Asia, as well as The History and Cultures of Europe. While Black students only make up 6.26% of the student population, black history is so important to the structure of America to simply be subjected to a few lessons in The History and Culture of Americas class. There needs to be a course at The Culinary Institute of America that focuses only on black history. That includes but is not limited to, the African American experience, the Caribbean American experience as well as the Afro-Latino experience. Without a doubt, it can be said that without the sacrifices Black people continuously make throughout history, we as a nation would not be where we are. Furthermore, an institution that prides itself on its diversity should be able to offer more classes that cater to this diversity. To implement change, it takes strength in numbers. Please sign this petition if you would like to see this kind of change within The Culinary Institute of America.
