The Lehigh University Administration has put out a number of statements regarding the reopening of campus, and in all of those statements, the Administration has claimed that students will receive a 10% reduction to tuition if they go fully remote. While we have all technically had this discount from tuition, many students are also finding that same EXACT amount has removed from their grant as well. We're already upset enough that we will not return to living on campus, and this is blatantly disrespectful greed to pile on top of it. The administration is basically telling us that the real Lehigh experience is worth nothing when, in reality, the Lehigh experience is worth FAR more than even the 10% reduction to tuition.

There is also a common feeling shared among students that have experienced this grant reduction: we feel marginalized. We aren't just money batteries, we are students, friends, a community, and quite literally the reason why the University exists. If the Administration is going to promise us a discount, they have to follow through or else students will begin to feel like only their money matters to the University, rather than their education and well-being. This is not a reputation that Lehigh can afford to have, and will deter high school seniors from applying as well as make the current student body consider other options to continue their post secondary education.

By signing this petition, we implore the administration to recognize not just our value to the University, but to recognize the value of every student attending Lehigh by reversing their decision to reduce this much-needed grant money. By signing this petition, we remind the administration that they answer to the students, who are outraged by this egregious decision to rob us of promised relief that is much-needed in the COVID-19 era.
