Get UL Lafayette to issue a statement in regards to the hate speech/vandalism on campus

During the early hours of November 9, 2016, several hateful messages were chalked on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s campus. Some of these messages included: “Fuck your safe space”, “Build wall”, and “Democrats can kiss Trump’s ass.” While the University has made swift efforts to get it’s custodial staff to clean up the hate speech that has appeared all around campus, we as students do not feel like that is enough. These messages have incited fear, anger, disgust, and anxiety in students and we demand that further action is taken.

With all of the new initiatives to make UL Lafayette more inclusive and diverse, we as students want to hear from faculty, staff, and most importantly, administration that they care about our well-being, mental health, and feelings. We want a formal statement issued from the university expressing their concern as well as outlining the consequences for committing said vandalism and causing such fear and panic within the students.

Please use this petition to collectively express your feelings, thoughts, and concerns on these recent chalking’s of hate speech. This petition will be sent to the administrators and specifically President E. Joseph Savoie.
