Stewards of God's creations. This is the kind of recognition placed unto us as we have the superiority over other creations. Each and every one of us exists due to our purposes in life and one of them is taking good care of the environment. Sadly, that didn't last for too long as we take advantage over it. Take the Philippines for example; an archipelago rich in both human and natural resources but faces numerous problems which are still unresolved up to now and the common encounter of Filipino citizens is regarding the environment they threaten. Major issues do not seem to lessen but rather be added as the plan for the construction of the Kaliwa Dam continues. This petition aims to oppose the said plan of the government as this project might be the absurd solution to a major issue which may only seek on putting everyone, including the environment, at risk causing for a more severe problem.
Proposal of the said project has a good intention as it will put an end to the water shortage of Metro Manila. The massive dam has the capacity to treat as much as 600 million liters of water per day. On the contrary, there are consequences to be faced such as the destruction of the environment, specifically the Sierra Madre, which protect us by lessening the impacts and risks posed about by natural disasters as they are prevalent in our country, feared that it may worsen flooding in Metro Manila and some provinces near it and even put people's lives at stake. Indeed, as the phrase itself had said, no good deed goes unpunished.
Not every solution enforced by the government is due for the greater good of mankind because there are instances that the intention is good but the actions needed to be done may lead to serious consequences. At this moment, let our voices be heard in opposing the construction of the Kaliwa Dam project. Thus, may President Rodrigo Duterte, the DENR and even other government leaders cease this project, even though the process may have started, as it is never too late to still do the right thing. This petition does not force but it encourages everyone to sign it as this issue is quite alarming and ongoing. If I may ask, what do you prefer regarding this matter, becoming a problem-solver or a world-changer?
