Petition for the government to give more attention to solving Climate Change: The Melting of Icebergs

Every year, about half of Antartica’s ice losses happen on the edges, through glaciers. Let that sink in for a moment. More than a trillion (1,000,000,000,000) metric tons of ice—one of the largest icebergs in history—just broke free from Antarctica.

One of the most important environmental conditions that need immediate attention is the melting of the glaciers. The glacier is a dense body of ice that has been formed where the accumulation of snow exceeds its ablation over many years. Glaciers aren’t formed instantly. They need centuries for their formation. Hence their melting must raise a concern. Glaciers are found in man parts of the world, their melting is a normal process with many dependent on the freshwater for survival. However, their dramatic melting which we see now isn’t normal. With an increase in global temperatures, glacier ice is melting faster. This will lead to a rise in sea level which will have a direct impact on those living in low lying areas. Glaciers absorb a little heat and reflect the remaining back into space. With their disappearance, the earth is now absorbing more heat causing the temperature to rise even further.

These impacts aren’t always just additive—they’re often interactive, meaning the resulting effect can sometimes be much greater than the sum of the individual stressors. And this poses an even bigger problem for our ocean.

Thus, we conclude that the disappearance of glaciers will harm us. It will lead to the destruction of mankind if it is not taken care of. By reducing global warming it will help to prevent glacier melting. We are all to blame for the drastic climate change that is happening in our world today, let us give back back to mother earth by signing this petition.
