The reason for this petition is simple: We, as human beings, have fundamental rights. At Concordia University Saint Paul, those rights have been violated for the LGBT students. This petition is to stop institutionalized discrimination against innate human traits. This needs to be focused on at Concordia-Saint Paul, through open communication and changes in the charter. For those of you who do not know what happened: Nikki Hagan was "forced to resign" from her position as a 908 leader (a chapel group at Concordia University, St. Paul) She was forced to resign due to the fact that she is dating another female. The church leaders were "fine" with her sexuality, as long as it wasn't discussed, and swept under the rug. It was the idea of there is a difference between "identifying" and "practicing" homosexual tendencies. We are looking for a public apology from the University, and for Concordia to be more transparent about the opportunities for LGBT students, specifically which ones they are able to be a part of and which ones they are not allowed to participate in.
