Project WOLVES is a brand new Post-Secondary Education Program at The University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA. It is one of a growing number of programs designed to serve students with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) enabling them the opportunity to experience college while learning valuable life and social skills. It also enables students pursuing degrees in special education, social work, occupational/speech/physical therapy, and other supportive careers to interact with these students and guide them through the challenges they face and celebrate their achievements in real time. This is invaluable in training the next generation of professionals to help support students with I/DD and their families.

Project WOLVES kicked off its inaugural year in August 2019 with four students with intellectual disabilities with the goal of expanding to more students over the upcoming year. In October 2019 (less than two months into the start of this program), the Dean of the College of Education pulled the plug on the support for the program leaving the current students and the future of Project WOLVES in limbo. The reason for this is still unclear although given that the funding was coming from an outside source, it doesn't appear to be financial.

Inclusion programs benefit everyone!

It is critical to keep programs like this from going under. While we don't know all the reasons for the COE pulling their support, we do know that Project WOLVES enjoys a lot of support from the special education community and the community at large. This program was just getting going and there is no reason for it to be shut down.

To make a decision like this just 2 months in is cruel to the students currently enrolled and strips future students of the opportunity to attend a wonderful program. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION and HELP SAVE PROJECT WOLVES!
