Every semester students pay a hefty amount to live on campus/go to class . Regardless of how campus gets the money, getting it is no easy task; hence, we, the student body would find it most appropriate if housing and tuition had both fees lowered to an appropriate amount. COVID19 Pandemic was en route for the University of Alabama, and was most inconvenient for students. Due to said named event, the campus’ response was to remove students from campus. In time, the college decided to go to being two weeks out of class instead of one week, with online course material provided. This decision was later changed, as the college canceled any attendance being required. Students applied for both/either education means, and/ or living conditions. Campus has responded to not meet students with either, so students should receive partial compensation.

The cost of tuition yearly is growing exponentially and for some that may make it difficult to pay for, and keep attending school. The current in-state tuition for the Fall/Spring 19-20 is $10,780 and out-of-state is $30,250. The University of Alabama can alleviate some of the burden, and stress especially during the pandemic of COVID19; since we, the student body are paying for classes that we are not physically there to receive. This being the matter, students will not receive the proper aid to grasp, and retain knowledge as well as having an in-class presence, over doing classes online for course material.

For students living on campus at the University of Alabama, this event had students doing a lot more in order to prepare for Spring Break 2020. 8,400 students currently live on campus in the dorms, or apartments. Upon arriving back from extended Spring Break 2020 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, students are going to stagger to move back home, or make other living arrangements with the current shutdown in effect. Most students will stay locally for summer classes or move out into the local area; a select few students will travel to wherever home may be, and will travel a significant distance. The uncertainty of not knowing when students can return to campus to retrieve their valuables/possessions will make it harder for both students and parents to plan around this conundrum.

In fairness to the student body, tuition and housing costs should be deducted as a means to compensate for the unique circumstances. The student body suggests one-third of total costs should be deducted that apply to the students individual payment to the University of Alabama. Parents, and students should not have to pay for an incomplete semester, when every dollar that they pay goes towards their future.
