Save our Administrative Assistant of Akron CRNA Program

Due to budget cuts and political issues, the administrative assistant of the University of Akron Masters of Nurse Anesthesia Program, Mrs. Betty Papania, has been ordered to step down and be replaced by a more tenured, yet non-experienced assistant. This comes at great dismay and distress to our program director, assistant professors, and most importantly, the students. Mrs. Papania has worked for the Anesthesia Program for eleven years, and for those eleven years she has been critical to the program's growth, low attrition rates, and overall success, making The University of Akron a desirable program in Ohio and nationwide. From a student's perspective, Mrs. Papania has helped from prior to the start of the program throughout. Mrs. Papania's responsibilities include:
"administrative support to the director, administrative support to the associate director, administrative support to the senior instructor, communications with prospective students, clinical rotation schedule, daily communications with 71 anesthesia students and 36 incoming students, compiling applications and required documentation for credentialing for 25 clinical sites, administrative meetings with program director, maintaining over 200 student files, processing applications and maintaining prospective files, maintaining graduate student records, advising for prospective students, student handbook updates on springboard, tracking student care plans, tracking receipt of preceptor/site evaluations from students, sending and tracking receipt of end-of-rotation evaluations from preceptors, being the recording secretary for graduate curriculum committee, being the recording secretary for nurse anesthesia program advisory committee, coordinating guest speakers and special events". (College of Health Professions Time Study Worksheet)
Besides these formal responsibilities, informal responsibilities include: ensuring that accreditation standards are being met, being the backbone of the program, providing experienced knowledge in how to handle situations, keeping morale up for all students in program, and running the largest Nurse Anesthesia program in Ohio.
These responsibilities are vast and are only successfully accomplished due to the experience and expertise of Mrs. Betty Papania. We need your support and signature in order to keep The University Akron's Nurse Anesthesia Program healthy and strong. Without your support this replacement directly effects the Director, Dr. Radesic, the Anesthesia Classes of 2016 and 2017, and the future of The University of Akron's Nurse Anesthesia Program.
