Help change the way we, the people of the U.S., are represented in our votes in elections
Why this petition matters
I feel that electoral votes based on population can be extremely biased because the electoral votes per state basically rely on the votes of the most populated cities. Therefore, all votes that are cast in less populated areas are not counted as equally as the more populated areas. What I propose is for electoral votes be based on county rather than state population, so it would be one electoral vote per county in all fifty states and the District of Columbia. This would make the election more fair, and every vote would be counted equally. With this implemented, it would guarantee that every vote matters and the less populated rural areas would be better represented in every election. I feel that the rural areas are the back-bone of our great nation and their votes basically go unrecognized and underrepresented when it comes to elections as their votes are drowned out by the heavily populated cities, making it easier for one candidate to take control of a state only because that candidate has more votes in the more heavily populated cities. By giving one electoral vote per county in all fifty states and the District of Columbia, every candidate would have more fair representation. Each and every county would represent their candidates by popular vote in each county, rather than as a whole, giving every candidate a fair electoral vote count. I believe this would better suit the nation and help make everyone feel like their vote matters, in turn helping to get more people to vote. If this could be amended, it would greatly benefit all Americans by ensuring that all votes are “heard” and counted equally.
