Petitioning President Barack Obama and 3 others

Urge the U.S. President & Government to commit to a climate treaty in 2012.

If emissions don't peak by 2015 or 2020 at the ABSOLUTE LATEST, we are looking at irreversible effects on the climate. (Read http://www.grist.org/climate-change/2011-12-05-the-brutal-logic-of-climate-change). The U.S. is dragging its feet in committing to a climate treaty and, in fact, seems to actively be disregarding the effect that putting off such a treaty will have on the world we live in.

According to the EPA, "Worldwide, emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities increased by 26 percent from 1990 to 2005."  2000-2009 was the warmest decade on record.

The world is experiencing more heat waves, droughts, and earthquakes in addition to rising sea temperatures and a shrinking Arctic Cap.  Six of the ten most active hurricane seasons have occurred since the mid 1990s.

Tell President Obama that you want to protect the climate for future generations. We only get one world and we must cut emissions and create sustainable practices immediately to protect it.

Dear President Obama,

If emissions don't peak by 2015 or 2020 at the ABSOLUTE LATEST, we are looking at irreversible effects on the climate. (Read http://www.grist.org/climate-change/2011-12-05-the-brutal-logic-of-climate-change). You and our government are dragging your feet in committing to a climate treaty and, in fact, seem to actively be disregarding the effect that putting off such a treaty will have on the world we live in.

We only get one world and we must cut emissions and create sustainable practices immediately to protect it. We urge you to COMMIT to creating a climate treaty NO LATER than December 31, 2012.
