Hello everyone, my name is Gianmarco Maggiolini, an Italian freelance journalist and photographer. I am launching this petition to initiate the process of establishing "THE WORLD DAY OF SILENCE," which I hope will occur on November 3rd of each year.  My aspiration is to dedicate this time to cultural and commemorative action in memory of all those who have been seized from their loved ones by COVID-19. During this day, cultural events, debates, ceremonies, meetings, and moments of remembrance would be recognized particularly in schools.

Why should we have a "Day of Silence"?  The Pandemic forced us to live with SILENCE, compelling us to understand its value and profound meaning.  However, it has decimated an entire generation of parents and grandparents by wrapping them in aloneness, and confinement, which deprived them of contact with their relatives.  From the words of the medical professional, Dr Daniele Spaccavento authenticated the situation: "When you are suffering from a serious illness, family members can be close to you. However, if you have COVID-19, you are alone, left in isolation, with the terror that can be read in each patient's eyes. THE SOUND OF SILENCE in the intensive care is interrupted by life support equipment and the prevalent reality of the grave situation".

COVID-19 has removed millions from their families, isolating them in hospitals, intensive care, and nursing homes. In many countries, the poorest and most marginalized people have passed away in SILENCE without being able to receive a respectable funeral. Many, have been abandoned and place in unmarked coffins or buried in mass graves.

I NEED YOUR HELP! WHEN YOU AGREE TO SIGN THIS PETITION, YOU BECOME A PART OF A COMMUNITY THAT SUPPORT THE REALIZATION OF THIS DAY.  THIS ENDEAVOUR WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE  LOVING MEMORY OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHOSE SACRIFICE  BRING AWARENESS THAT PUBLIC HEALTH, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, AND SOCIAL JUSTICE  MUST BE COMBINED IN ORDER TO MAKE AN ALL-COMPREHENSIVE CHANGE.
