It is critical that we support all people in experiencing the full range of what it is to be human and a valued and participatory member of our society. Adaptive & assistive technologies of all types must be made available as a human right to those whom would benefit from these devices - children and adults of all ages - without bias nor discrimination based on gender, race, ethnicity, religion, class, age, able-ism, and or type of disability (sensory, cognitive, physical, emotional, psychological). It is truly a moral and ethical imperative to support the human rights of *all* persons such that participation is made fully available and/or adapted & assisted is provided to those who would benefit so that full participation may be truly realized by all.

As an adaptive individual I meet other adaptives every day that tell me that they wish that they could do this or that and can’t because their insurance companies have said that it is not medically necessary. Does that mean that every human right only qualifies because it is medically necessary?? Living with the pain every day of a traumatic accident and not being able to get out and do things is one of the major reasons we have drug overdoses suicides. Come on insurance companies out the shoe on the other foot and see how it feels....

Equal opportunity is at the heart of the ADA, and many insurance companies reimburse for gym memberships, so they understand how important exercise is to keeping their costs down. They shouldn’t be doing a cost benefit analysis on people with disabilities and decide it’s not profitable for them to support their access to exercise. That’s discrimination.
