Nuclear energy is the climate solution we need to save the earth. We are 8th-grade students in Brennan middle school that have researched this topic. We know that the climate needs saving and the economy needs to remain thriving, and nuclear energy is the only way to achieve this goal.  There is little risk of a meltdown with modern reactors , the energy production is massive , and there are ways to prepare our infrastructure to stop a disaster. We are trying to spread the word that nuclear energy is much more efficient and much more cost-efficient in the long run.  With reactors on average lasting 15 more years than solar panels and the world needing more energy than solar panels , wind turbines , and fossil fuels can supply, it seems nuclear reactors are our only hope.  The energy output of a single nuclear reactor is astronomically more efficient than that of an array of solar panels with 3.125 million Pv Panels being the equivalent of 1 nuclear reactor in energy production.

The positive impact of conversion to nuclear energy massively outweighs any negative it could have.  It would help the environment greatly by cutting down on carbon emissions .  With current technology nuclear reactors produce even less emissions than solar panels which produce 50 grams of carbon dioxide per kilowatt hour.  In comparison nuclear reactors produce 0 emissions per kilowatt hour.  Contrary to popular belief nuclear reactors don't pose a major threat of meltdown.  With proper infrastructure the chance of a terrorist attack or reactor meltdown is slim to none.  

Some of the ways to convert the current United States electrical grid to a cleaner nuclear one are slowly over a period of 10 or so years in order to make sure the infrastructure is secure and advanced enough to stop a disaster from occurring.  Over this period things such as oil and natural gas facilities , which produced 74 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 , would be replaced with nuclear reactors or decommissioned for other use.  The rise of large scale solar panel fields can be replaced with more carbon neutral nuclear reactors.  

In conclusion we know that the climate needs saving and the economy needs to remain thriving, and nuclear energy is the only way to achieve this goal.  With the help of you and all of the people who read this the economy and climate can , and will be saved.
