Dear Mr. President and Secretary Walsh,

Recently you implemented a vaccine mandate for all Federal Employees, many of whom have either already had COVID (meaning they are naturally immune), or have already taken the vaccine. Some have chosen not to, due to the lack of longitudinal research on the COVID vaccinations and their side effects. There are in fact thousands of claims of side-effects including effects on the female reproductive system that have yet to be researched. Obviously, no amount of mandating, or moralizing is going to convince skeptics that the vaccine is safe- only time and research will do that.

So, in response to these skeptics, you have decided to forcefully vaccinate the masses on threat of loss of livelihood. You have cited the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (29 USC 655) as your means to mandate the vaccine for all federal employees, along with all employees working for companies with over 100 employees.  

This law is only viable for your purposes if COVID were specifically an occupational (work) hazard. Unfortunately it is not. The Novel Coronavirus doesn’t care if you’re in school learning calculus, at the grocery store buying potatoes, or sitting in your office making phone calls. It is a hazard of living in close proximity to other humans-as are most car accidents, human to human violence and the flu.

 COVID is not an occupational hazard, and therefore the law you’ve cited does not give you the authority to mandate a medical procedure in order to protect employees against it.

I get it. You’re heart’s probably in the right place. “I’ve got to save the employees that won’t get vaccinated on their own!” Right? Or is it: “I have to save COVID vaccinated workers from getting COVID from the unvaccinated workers!”

Regarding the former motivation, as much as those unvaccinated masses undoubtedly appreciate the sentiment, they’re fully capable of making their own decisions about their own bodies. If your motivation is the latter, where vaccinated employees are in fear of contracting the disease they are vaccinated against, then perhaps the vaccine is not effective enough to be mandated in the first place.

Either way, we as employees effected by your mandate would like to formally ask you to revoke the COVID vaccine mandate. Our reasoning is that COVID is not a hazard of occupation, but a hazard of living, and therefore not within your right to require any sort of medical procedure to guard against it.
