Reunite families that have been torn apart, from harsh sentences

This petition had 401 supporters

This Petition is to urge President Donald Trump and the White House to take action and begin reviewing the 3,469 Clemency Petitions that the Obama Administration closed without action. We encourage the White House to establish a reasonable timetable to which its review will begin. We encourage President Donald Trump to follow the same criteria requirements set forth by the Obama Administration, when deciding whether to grant or deny the petition's that meet those requirements.

We call to ACTION, former President Barak Obama to begin advocating for the 3,469 petitioner's and their families that were simply left behind and left without answers.  Many of these unanswered petitions meet the criteria required by the Obama Administration, and have passed through very extensive screening's by the Clemency Project 2014, the United States Justice Department, and the Office of the Pardon Attorney. That criteria required a petitioner to be a non-violent, first time/low-level drug offender, who has served at least 10 years of his/her prison sentence, whose sentence would be lower if sentenced today, no ties to gangs, cartels, or large-scale criminal organizations, no prior history of violence and no history of violence during incarceration. Many of these 3,469 petitioner's met the criteria perfectly and was awaiting President Obama's signature.

Hundreds of pro bono attorney's around our country dedicated many hours of man power and research to litigate these petitions. Family and friends mailed thousands of letters and sent thousands of emails in support of their incarcerated loved ones. Many of them single mothers and wives who hoped that this was their opportunity to be reunited with their husbands, and their children with their fathers. But on January 20th, 2017 they were simply left unanswered!

We ask that the American people join us in support of our efforts to bring resolution to these 3,469 unanswered Clemency Petitions. To possibly reunite families that have been torn apart for more than a decade and to acknowledge the efforts of hundreds of attorney's and thousands of family members that contributed to all of the work it took to complete these petitions. President Donald Trump said during his inauguration speech: "You will no longer be ignored". Let us hold him to this!
