Reparations Now Committee started this petition to President of the United States and

The city of St. Petersburg is planning another economic scam on the Black community. After tricking Black people in the 1980s into selling our property so light industry could be developed and jobs created, the city is now wants to hand over the same property they stole to white developers. We demand the city repair the damage done to Black people by destroying our community.

In 1986 the city of St. Petersburg set about the business of ripping off the Black community for 86 acres of land located Where the Tropicana field. In the economic assault that Resulted in the building of the Tropicana Dome, more than 100 Black businesses, 800 black families and numerous Black Churches were destroyed. Today the Tropicana Dome is sitting on our stolen land as 28.6% of the Black population lives below the poverty line. The 28.6 under the poverty line equals out to 16,508 of the 57.780 total African population .

Until recently only 21% of the Black male students in Pinellas County graduating with a regular diploma, the highest Failure rate in the United States. A number of African people have been murdered by police In St. Petersburg including Tyron lewis, Javon Dawson, Palmer , Jarrell Walker, and Big Man Daniels. These murders spanned a period of more than 30 years and not one cop has ever been charged in any of these deaths, let alone convicted.

On the housing front, the average price of a two bedroom apartment in the city of St. Petersburg is now $1,400. The demand for reparations in the form of the 86 acres of Tropicana property is symbolic of all the land the city has stolen from Black People, all the Black lives that vicious cops have taken, and all the Black children that the school system destroyed. We have to get involved with this fight for reparations.
It’s our land, It’s our fight!
