Extreme cruel gang rapes:

Suryanelli rape case, India:

A 16 year old girl from Suryanelli village of Idukki district in Kerala was abducted and gang raped by 5 persons repeatedly over 40 days. This is a high profile scandal in Kerala, including various notable persons and politicians. On January 1996, the girl’s family just relocated to the village at that time because of her father transfer when she went missing for straight 40 days without any trace.

She was later spotted near her father’s office in a dreadful state. After several close examination, doctors confirmed molestation and rape. In 2012, it was reported that the company that she was working lately suspended her in a case of breach of trust and forgery, but reinstated after 8 months due to public pressure. She also stated that her family is still treated as outcast.

2013 Mumbai gang rape,India:

2013 Mumbai gang rape was executed by five individuals in the abandoned Shakti Mills compound, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai. On August 22, 2013, a 22-year-old photojournalist with her male colleague went to the deserted compound on an assignment. Five men attacked them, tied the male colleague and molest the photojournalist.

They also threatened both of them to not to report this incident. She gave her statement to police after four days on the 26 August, after receiving medical treatment from Jaslok Hospital. In her statement, she bravely said that, “I want no other woman in this city and country to go through such a brutal physical humiliation.

Perpetrators should be punished hardly, they have ruined my life. No punishment short of a life term will take away my pain, humiliation and physical abuse I underwent. Rape is not the end of life. I will continue my fight.” This spread like a fire in the jungle, and soon the police were able to catch those culprits in 65 hours. On April 4, three of the culprits were sentenced to death while two of them were awarded with the life sentence.

Delhi Gang rape and murder case, India:

16 December 2012 is the darkest day in the history of India. Delhi Gang rape and murder case was one of the most brutal case not only in India but in the world. A 23 year woman and her friend were on their way to home from Saket to Dwarka. On their way, near Munirka, they aboard an off duty private bus to reach their final destination.

Soon after some time, the male passenger, Awindra Pratap Pandey found that the bus was deviated and not going where they thought they were going. He was beaten by six people who were already on board with an iron rod and knocked unconscious. Then six of them of which one is a juvenile forced the woman, raped her and then he injected a wheel jack handle rite into her genitals, which damaged her abdomen and intestine.

Their cruelty didn’t just end here, they threw both of them out from the moving bus, and vanished out of the spot. After a week of treatment, she died in a hospital in Singapore. All the six people were arrested and one of them Ram Singh committed suicide in trial period in jail. Four of them were hanged and the young boy under 18 was sent to a juvenile home and is free meanwhile.

2012 Oksana Makar Gang Rape, Ukraine:

Oksana Makar was only 18 years old, when three young men brutally raped her on 2 April 2012. When she threatened them to report the offence to the police, they choked Oksana until they were thinking she is dead. After that, the three men wrapped the young girl in a cloth, dragged her into a deserted building site and set her on fire. A passerby spotted her and reached out for help.

Oksana died three weeks later due to her heavy injuries. Almost 55 % of her skin was burnt and doctors had to amputate both her feet and the right arm. The case caused a huge public indignation in the Ukraine. All three perpetrators were caught by the police, but two of them quickly got released. The reason: it turned out that they were the sons of high officials of the regional administration.

Oksana’s mother in the meanwhile showed a video of her suffering daughter on the internet. She had the sympathy of the Ukrainians on her side, who donated blood and raised money for Oksana.

2002 Mukhtara Mai Gang Rape, Pakistan:

On 22 June 2002 Mukhtara Mai got overwhelmed by several men in the house of the Mastoi­ family. They teared off her clothes and four of the fourteen men in the house raped the then 30 year old.

It’s said, that the men had agreed on the rape in a Jirga, an assembly, as a punishment for Mukhtara and her family.

The background: Mukhtara’s brother was suspected and accused by the Mastoi family of committing fornication with a Mastoi woman. Three members of Mastoi family in revenge sodomized and tortured Muhktara’s brother.

The solution: Mukhtara’s brother has to marry the same Mastoi­ girl he was alleged of being involved in fornication. Furthermore Mukhtara should marry one of the Mastois. But in the last minute, the Mastoi family decided to cancel the plan. To overcome the dispute and see the case as resolved the Mastoi- family wanted Mukhtaran Mai to come to their house in person and apologize for the whole incident.

By the time Mukhtara Mai with his father and maternal uncle arrived for the apology, armed man with a 30-caliber pistol, forcibly took Mukhtaran into a stable where she was gang raped. It is also reported that on the orders of Jirga (traditional assembly of leaders), she was paraded naked in front of hundreds of onlookers.

Mukhtaran indicated her tormentors, but until now only of them is in jail, while all the other ones are free. The now 39 year old is married to a policeman and had written a book about her internationally well known and unique case.

Cheryl Araujo case,U.S.:

Cheryl Araujo was gang raped in New Bedford, Massachusetts at the age of 21 in 1983. The incident took place in a local tavern where few men forced her and brutally raped her on a pool table. Eventually, she fought off the attackers and ran almost naked right into the street, screaming.

She was rescued by some students passing by, who took her to the nearest hospital. This is one of the few cases in which the name of a rape victim was disclosed openly, causing serious tension among the media worldwide. She died after a few years in a car crash.

Richmond High School Case,U.S.:

Richmond High school situated in Richmond, California, U.S, came into media scrutiny after a school student was brutally gang raped within its boundary. It was late night on 24 October 2009, when a homecoming dance was organized in the school. A classmate of the victim (name disclosed), invited her to join some of his own friends. They were having a small party in a dark courtyard.

Here, she consumes a high amount of alcohol (brandy), then she was propositioned for sex by the alleged offenders. Following her refusal they beat her to an extent that she became semi-unconscious, then continuously raped her for more than 2 hours. According to report almost dozens bystanders witnessed the act, but did not call for help. A local resident called the police. The poor girls had so many bad injuries, that the police called a helicopter for help. Her father was mocked at the telephone by the culprits, that they had great sex with his daughter.

Story of Richard Speck, one of the most cruel rapists and murderers in the U.S.:

Richard Benjamin Speck was a psychotic mass murderer and rapist who systematically tortured, raped, and murdered women of different age groups from six different states. His first victim was Virgil Harris, a 65-year-old resident of Monmouth, who he raped and then killed.

Ella Mae Hooper, a 53-year-old woman, whom Speck took her to his room, brutally raped her. On July 13, 1966, Speck broke into a townhouse in Chicago’s Jeffery Manor neighborhood, functioning as a dormitory for nurses, he then raped and killed 8 medical students. Speck died of a heart attack after 25 years in prison.

Madge Oberholtzer, cruel rape case, U.S.:

Madge Augustine Oberholtzer was kidnapped by the members of Ku Klux Klan (white supremacy) in March 1925, while working for the Indiana State on an adult literacy campaign. D. C. Stephenson a higher ranked member of the Klan, holding her captive in a train car, raped and tortured her.

She died from a staph infection from her injuries and kidney failure. Stephenson’s men then returned Oberholtzer to her home, presuming her injuries would be able to kill her and their influential leader will be out of harms way. However, she was able to give a detailed statement, which led to Stephenson’s conviction at trial and also led to the rapid decline of ‘KKK’ membership in the State of Indiana.

10. Belgium

Belgium is regarded to be one of the countries with highest cases of rapes. According to United Nation Office on Drug and Crime, in 2008 the total cases recorded by the police were more than 2800. According to Belgium’s law marital rape is also illegal. From 2009 to 2011, the number of reported rape cases has increased more than 20%.

According to the Statistics Canada report, more than 1 in 3 women had experienced a sexual assault and only 6% were reported to the police. Most women are afraid of getting a bad reputation in society after this crime and that’s why they don’t even compliant to the police. In Canada, one out of every seventeen women is raped and over 60% of rape victims were brutally physically injured.

According to the BBC one report, 85000 women were raped in 2007 that means around 230 cases every day. In 2009, more than 250,000 suffered from abuse and 3% of them reported committed sexual violence against their partner. In UK taxi is not safe for women as most of the rape was happening in UK taxi.

Rape is one of the most common crimes against women in India. Between 1990 to 2008 the rape cases in India increased to double. In 2012, the judgement rate for rape was 24.2%.

Man Stalked Olympian Shawn Johnson:

Thirty-six year-old Robert O'Ryan was arrested in March of 2009 after driving from Florida to California to stalk Olympic-gold-medal-winning gymnast and "Dancing With the Stars" contestant, Shawn Johnson. When O'Ryan tried to break onto the set of the reality dance competition, he was arrested by police, who found a loaded shotgun, a loaded handgun, duct tape, and love letters, in his car.

O'Ryan claimed that he could communicate telepathically with celebrities, and had heard Johnson "speaking" to him while she was performing in the Beijing Olympics.

Robert John Bardo Stalked and Murdered Rebecca Schaeffer:

Robert John Bardo has had a long history of stalking young celebrities. In 1986, he became fixated on starlet Rebecca Schaeffer, star of the hit sitcom My Sister Sam. Three years later, in July of 1989, Bardo used a private investigator to locate Schaeffer's home address, then showed up at her apartment.

Schaeffer politely signed an autograph for Bardo, but when he returned, she asked him to leave, which enraged him. He produced a gun and shot her in the chest. She was dead by the time the police arrived, and Bardo was later arrested after having been found wandering in traffic nearby.

Delhi Teen Allegedly Raped, Strangled And Burnt By Men Who Stalked Her, 2016, India:

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped before she was murdered and set on fire inside her home in east Delhi last week. Two suspects believed to have harassed and stalked the teenager for months have been caught.

The girl's burnt body was found by her mother on Thursday. The police initially believed that it was a suicide.

An autopsy, however, confirmed that she had been strangled.

A friend of the girl has told the police that she had been followed by two young men in the neighbourhood for long and has also claimed that she was sexually assaulted by them. The suspects were picked up on the basis of her statement.

The girl was alone when the killers broke into her home. It is suspected that the attackers burnt the body to hide sexual assault.

The girl had allegedly complained to the police about the men.

Another teen's brutal rape caused massive outrage last month after it emerged that she was repeatedly assaulted and then forced to drink acid by the man who had allegedly raped her earlier. The 14-year-old was kidnapped from her home allegedly by the accused just before a court hearing.

She died on July 26 after a month in hospital, prompting headlines that screamed - "how many Nirbhayas?" - a reference to the young student who was fatally gang-raped on a moving bus in 2012.
