1 in 5 Americans suffer from a mental illness
20-25% of Americans have a diagnosable mental and/or substance use disorder in any given year.
As many as 10% of children have a serious emotional disturbance, contributing to school failure and other serious problems.
As a current college student who has seen how not taking care of your mental health can affect your well being as well as the people around you, I am creating this petition in order to implement a one hour mental health course in every college that counts towards each degree plan. By doing so, this course will raise awareness to each student on what it looks like to deal with mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and more. The course will include background of each of the common disorders, practical ways to cope with these issues, and resources that are accessible to every student. Please join me in making a change in the way we address mental health.
