Make March 13th a National Holiday For American Students
Why this petition matters
For students all over America, and even all over the world, March 13th, 2020 was a memorable day. At school, people joked with their peers over a disease that seemed like it would never impact them-- COVID-19. Teachers predicted it would simply be a two week break from school, high school juniors were grateful they'd get some time to rest from their busy academics, and parents thought the schools were just taking unnecessary precautions.
Little did each group of these people know, March 13th, 2020 would be a day to go down in history. Those two weeks turned into two months. Those two months turned into "next school year". And, "next school year" turned into "no one knows". Now, it's been 6 months and counting. As a high school junior living in California in the midst of this unforeseen circumstance, I have seen, firsthand, how this pandemic has impacted all individuals throughout the world, specifically those in the education sector.
This is why we firmly believe that March 13th, 2020 must be a day to be remembered; a day we took to hugs and handshakes from our friends for granted; a day where our greatest worry was the vocab quiz we had in 5th period; a day where we could be in the presence of others without being physically distanced.
