Intervene in the African slave trade

African emigrants seeking refuge in other parts of the world are now being shanghaied by human traffickers, and are being sold for as little as $400 in open slave markets. Libya is in financial and legal shambles, with no means or intention of stopping this. The United Nations reports that enslaved refugees have been sent to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and the U.N. agencies who have been tasked with handling the problem are not fully prepared to handle the issue. Every day that nothing is done, the human traffickers become more powerful and better organized. Left unchecked, this will grow into a catastrophe for humanity.
The United States has a blemished history where slavery is concerned. While there's nothing that we can do about the past, we can unite in agreement that slavery has no place in our world today. American values require us to right a wrong, help the helpless, shelter the weak, and free the oppressed; this is part of what makes the United States great. We call on the President as a representative of all Americans, to focus our resources to end this atrocity, to save these people, and to send a message that the United States will not turn a blind eye to human trafficking.
