Who wasn't ever proud of the United States academic progress? Of our huge education system? We have the best engineers, the best business tycoons, the best doctors. But all these people started their careers with education. All of them slugged away with astonishing determination, often feeling abused, as their teachers piled more and more work upon them.

As students, children feel overworked, overwhelmed and abused. Yet so many kids work anyway, for their benefit and that of their country. Now more than ever, as more emphases is being put on kindness and sensitivity, it is more important that these children, feeling neglected in school, be appreciated. I have personally experienced the growing attitude in school for shirking studies and even for rebellion!

I'll say it straight. If the US wants to stay ahead in areas like philosophy and engineering, we need to show it. We should appreciate the student's work. Why should they work for no appreciation? For no recognition? Let us propose a National Students Appreciation Day, to give kids a day off, to show them we value their hard work. Everyone will feel good, and it will encourage children to work harder.

Students do just as much, maybe even more, compared to everyone else with their respective appreciation days. This is especially the case when referring to other school figures such as teachers and their appreciation days. They deserver their own, there's no reason why they shouldn't.
