Increase NASA Funding

Increase NASA Funding
Why this petition matters
Fifty years ago, NASA sent mankind to set foot on the moon for the first time. This took the world's breath away. Since then, NASA has inspired millions of people all around the world along with innovating important technology and everyday objects. During the Apollo program, NASA's funding was about 4.5% of the federal budget. After only six months of the program, the government canceled it and reduced the agency’s funding to only 1.0% of the federal budget. In the following forty-nine years, that has declined to 0.5%, which is where it is today. Over the years, not only has NASA inspired people, but it has developed many important everyday objects that we use today. A few of the most notable are camera phones, LEDs, water purification systems, wireless headsets, home insulation, firefighting equipment, and many more. While NASA does research on what lies beyond Earth, it greatly benefits life here at home. Without NASA, we would not have GPS or the many satellites that help monitor the environment from space. With an increase in funding, NASA could help understand things about Earth that could improve life for everyone, including the planet itself.
