Every day I go to math class knowing how to solve everything simply without any number lines or anything. Some of the math problems are so easy I could do it in my head. But, thanks to common core I got a 63 on my math quiz. I have never had an easy time learning at school in math, so I would just have my Mom help me, she could help me on things like -4+(-3/6) per say, but solving these problems on a number line is far to complex. I just don't understand why the new generation has to struggle, when nobody will understand that doing this makes everything harder. I understand that Sometimes it can help you, but most of the time its just extra work. I get so frustrated with common core sometimes, and I want to know why we have to do it so, I raise my hand and I ask the teacher, "why do we have to do common core?" and they tell me, "Because its on the test" or "Because the state requires us to do it." None of my teacher have ever responded "Because it helps you." It should be to help us, not to help us get bad grades. Every day I think why should the new generation have to suffer because of something the states require us to do? Why should I have to suffer with a C in math because I can't learn common core? I know that life's not fair, but if i'm standing in line at the grocery store trying to see how much money i'm spending with $20 in my pocket, i'm probably going to use a calculator, or worse case scenario I would do the math in my head, I wouldn't draw out a number line in my head to figure out that $2+$2=$4.
