Get Americans out of a 4 month deficit due to discontinued federal boost from Sep-Dec 2020
Why this petition matters
The common American family went under a heap of debt beginning September 2020 when the federal unemployment boost was discontinued and wasn’t reinstated until January 2021. The Americans got buried under considerable debt as for most, the regular unemployment benefits were not nearly enough to cover the cost of food, essentials, utilities and bills.
Speaking from a regular American family, I can be a witness to how difficult it is to provide for a family of four with unemployment benefits (without federal boost) coming to only one or two members of the family. We need to stand together to see the only way to remove this burden of excess debt is to provide the families with their due unemployment boost. It was delayed due to the lack of concurrence in the congress for which a common family paid by pushing itself into poverty. But it is time to fulfill those forgotten promises.
For any government looking to help the people out of the poverty line, there cannot be a better beginning than this awaited boost which will not only provide food for the families but perhaps put a smile across the unemployed parents and providers who are struggling to fulfill the needs of those they love.
As democratic leaders of congress fought for a $600 federal boost, which was then reduced to half at $300 when reinstated in January, we cannot expect the retrospective payments to be exactly at $600 per week, but if it is provided at the current provision of $300, it shall more than serve the American families well to pay off the past debts. I hope this is the feeling of many fellow Americans and their need as well, and I also hope for this earnest request to reach the desired desks as soon as possible.
