Why this petition matters
Here in the U.S., prison is more focused on punishment, than actually trying to fix the problem. This is bad. The rate of people committing a crime and going to jail after being released is over 55% nationally for 5 years in jail. Yes, part of the problem is that people can't get jobs after going to jail, but if we put more money into rehabilitation, workplaces will be kinder to them, knowing that people have learned. Sweden, for example, has these nice cells that have nice comfortable beds, a tv, bookshelves, and they have a reconviction rate of 43%. That's 12% lower. We could be so much better if we just worked on rehabilitation. Call your treasury officials, governors, legislatures, or whoever you know can help, and get this done, please.
