President Biden and the Democrats have voiced that they will do more to support teachers in their administration. The cancellation of $50,000 in student loan debt for everyone is a great way to stimulate the economy. However, for many teachers that will still leave us with a hefty sum to pay back. 

Many of us veteran teachers have improved our craft through obtaining masters degrees at a large cost to ourselves. Teachers have doubled or tripled their initial student debt to do so. 

We do feel that we can do more for teachers who have given their all and risked their lives, not only to protect their students from rogue shooters, but now to risk catching a deadly virus.

Since teachers already qualify for some level of Public Service Loan Forgiveness, we would ask you to advocate for the erasure of all student loan debt for teachers who serve at least 5 years in the profession.

Right now the program is hit or miss, and many teachers find that they are denied when they hit the 10 year mark.

This would go a long way towards improving teacher morale after a rather devastating year. Please consider this as a way to help retain teachers as well as to help them financially offset the costs of their profession.
