Living in Hawaii for the last 6 years I have seen these birds and enjoyed the benefits of their presence. Killing these only leads to more killing of "introduced" species...all the sparrows, the doves, the cardinals, both Brazilian and American, etc, etc. Not good policy at all. I guess this means the end of chickens, saffron finches and Java sparrows, too. Sad.

Nativism shows no respect for the sanctity of life and has no scientific basis because it cannot be defined. No one can scientifically define what’s native and what isn’t, for species migration has been going on since life began. The question “native to when” thus begged reveals nativism’s hollow sophistry.

being a former breeder and lover of my own birds I consider all birds sacred. That also applies to all animals.

First they want to eradicate cats because they kill birds. Now they want to eradicate birds. So not necessary.

We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form. ~William Ralph Inge, Outspoken Essays, 1922

Iis shocking that humans take it upon themselves to slaughter
other species based on poor science and economic reasons of special interest groups
