In January of 2021 President Joe Biden issued an Executive Order fighting for equality for those in the transgender community. This order allows for those who identify as transgender to use the restroom of their choice. HOWEVER, a flaw lies in this order. There is no way to prevent sexual predators from falsely identifying as transgender. This creates an unsafe environment in public restrooms! Yes, you could say “Those criminals will just go to jail.” Well, the sad reality is that according to the RAINN organization, out of every 1,000 rapes that take place, only 230 of those are reported and an even smaller 46 of those cases result in an arrest of the accused. So the injustice would have a very slim chance of becoming resolved. I feel as though there may be a solution to the problem! An identification card that is issued with a doctor and psychologist’s approval. Similar to that of a Legal Cannabis Card, this would allow for those in the transgender community to use the restroom of their choice, while also preventing criminals from taking advantage of the law. The card would have a process that goes along with approval, and will be available to anybody who qualifies (regardless of age and parental consent). I feel that if we fight together, we can truly change the law and provide a safe form of equality! Change is coming to this world! Let’s make sure we do it in the right way!
