Jackson Thomas started this petition to President of the United States and

The army can issue several types of discharges ranging from the honorable discharge to the dishonorable discharge and most of which in between can have lasting devastating effects on ones civilian life and ability to find a job and make a living. Testing positive for the use marijuana is one of those issues that constitutes a negative discharge, hurting ones career and life in general. This petition exists to protect military members who want to use marijuana from discharges that will have negative impact on their lives. This goal is not without stipulations of course. No military members should buy/consume while on duty or on military property as well as show up to duty under the influence of marijuana. Why I believe it should be legal outside of duty is that many military members suffer from depression, anxiety, or PTSD which are all treatable by the use of marijuana but without that option many turn to alcoholism, a fate far worse that marijuana use on a soldier, mentally and physically. Next, the affects of the drug wear off long before it leaves your system. Meaning a soldier that is prepared and able bodied may be discharged for having THC in their system even if the affects left.
