Abolish 3 strikes Law

Abolish 3 strikes Law
The 3 strikes law is an extremely harsh law and it has destroyed families in our communities since the law passed in 1993. It has allowed crimes like retail theft, marijuana possession and other non violent crimes to result in life sentences. It is important that we abolish this law for many reasons. One of the main reasons being because giving someone a life sentence for a petty offense is inhumane and barbaric. Also we have to wonder what penal service does this serve? How can we justify giving someone a life sentence for a marijuana possession or the theft of a retail jacket ,which are two real life examples of 3 strike law resulting in a life sentence for an extremely petty offense? They are not the only ones incarcerated but their children and families are as well. Another major reason this law should be abolished is because after passing the 3rd strike law it only made matters worse. The incarceration rate in the united states is now the highest in the world. President Joe Biden opposed the 3 strikes law because he seen the 3 strikes law has imposed life sentences on offenders who crimes does not fit the punishment. Since 1994 the courts have sent 7,500 third strikers to state prison. As of December 31 2004 there were 43,000 inmates serving time under the 3 strike law, making up about 26 percent of the total prison population. It is important that we stand together to abolish the 3 strikes law today. There are many amazing men and women incarcerated for a simple mistake, a mistake that could be totally legal in another state while costing you your life in another. We at Not Forgotten are advocating for this sanction to be abolished once and for all. The many thousands of victims involved can reunite with their families and love ones. Together we can accomplish so much. Please sign here and pass it along. Just Imagine if you got caught for everything you ever did and it all caught up with you no matter how small , and you received a life sentence in return. This is one of the best moves we can make as a society. This can be one of the many steps we can take to improve our trust in the justice system that has failed us time after time. We have had numerous unfortunate situations happen under the Department of corrections. We must be willing to take a stand today. Please don't wait until its your loved one.
