NORTH EAST HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATION (NEHRO) seeks intervention OF UN Human Rights Council regarding atrocities and  inhuman treatment on protesters by Arunachal Pradesh Government.

We have already filed a written complain to President of UN Human Rights Council and appeal everyone to show your support and  SIGN this Petition once again so that the our collective voice be heard at UN.

On 22 Feb, 2019, Hundreds of students protesters were protesting peacefully  near State Civil Secretarial office at Itanagar in the State of Arunachal Pradesh, India  to oppose an arbitrary decision of state government.  Suddenly state police and CRPF (Para military) started firing on the protesters where 3 people were reportedly killed by police firing.

Many youth, including girl students were brutally beaten by the police and para military forces at Itanagar on 22-02-2019 during a protest against state govt.  Some police personnel were found kicking and lathi-charging the innocent public in Itanagar and outraging the modesty of women. Meanwhile several protesters were also severely injured during police firing who are undergoing medical treatment.

It's a very sad state of affairs and amount to gross violation of human rights. There has been a total breakdown of law and order in Itanagar since 21-02-2019 and the situation turned more volatile after excessive deployment of armed forces by Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India.

Instead of seeking solutions and dialogue, the authorities have responded to protests by ordering the military and police onto the streets to repress and punish those who hold different views. In just five days, at least 3 people died during the protests, all from gunshot wounds. More than 40  have been arbitrarily detained.

We requests Hon’ble Council to intervene and call a report on the matter immediately from government of India.  May kindly direct to compensate the all injured persons immediately and take appropriate action against concerned authorities for using excessive police and para military forces on students.

In INDIA , access to justice is almost non-existent because of the weakness of its institutions. Sign this petition asking the UN Human Rights Council to take steps to address the total impunity prevailing in the country by creating an independent investigation mechanism to monitor and report on the human rights situation in ARUNACHAL PRADESH, INDIA
