This is a very important subject that needs to be taught to help better our future generations and give them a greater understanding about the situations that happen in America.

This is the time in history to change everything & move forward with progression, instead of fighting against the waters (flow). Somehow, I always understood the history I was being taught was only one side of the story & mostly inaccurate; I thought everyone understood that. I learned the hard way that just isn't the truth. Time for history to begin being taught & written the right way.

To NOT include Racial Studies in the core curriculum is an EGREGIOUS form of rewriting OUR history!!

I am signing this petition because I am a Social Studies teacher in Muskegon and understand first hand how underrepresented, and even misrepresented, Black History is in most textbooks and curriculum. No longer should it simply be up to the teacher’s discretion whether or not to accurately teach Black History. A robust and comprehensive approach supported by curriculum will help ensure that all teachers understand the importance, as well as have the tools to positively influence and impact the discussion about race with younger generations.

Racial studies should have always been a part of the education system. It’s time to educate the youth not deprive them of the education they need!
