Selling SAA is the same as selling land or any strategic asset such as a port or a ship.

Now let me bring this discussion to a pace of the slowest. We can't keep having corruption as an excuse to keep selling  national assets or we'll have no country left. In fact corruption will be targeted at any state asset sought just to ensure it is made vulnerable and primed to be sold to whomever seeks to buy them.

We continue to treat symptoms and not the disease of corrupt.  SAA has not and refuses to submit its financials to parliament.  Yet we say it runs at a loss.  What is the scientific proof?  Where are audited books of SAA?

For any self respecting country,  what is strategic has nothing to do with Rands and cents from a transactional point of view, but promises the spin offs that will benefit not the asset but the country and there it becomes the country's responsibility to maintain

If you have a passage by which ships pass and you build a port and that port seems to be very expensive to run and maintain it is because you are looking at the situation badly. It is not the duty of the port to run and maintain itself but the duty of the inland and the country as a whole to do so because that port is Strategic an assets.

Lastly, generally countries keep armies not because it is transactional to do so. Simply because it is Strategic to keep and improve the army to modern standards, spending billions and billions of Rands to ensure that this army is a capable army.

At the rate of selling off the country's assets one day we will wake up and have to pay rent for the services of the SANDF and SAPS ... if you think this is far fetched. Imagine another crisis such as covid19, South  Africans are stranded in foreign  countries and South Africa has to beg private sector or even other countries to use their airlines because even though there is money to pay, their compatriots not South Africans are a priority!
