11-year-oldGeeta”, committed suicide, after giving up the hope of being protected from her uncle who raped her frequently. Her family was a spectator to her wounds and her mother had even asked for help in school. Since the authorities weren’t aware of POCSO Act 2012(Prevention of Children from Sexual offense Act), they feared the involvement of police and abstained from helping her. When our NGO conducted an awareness workshop on POCSO Act in the school, they regretted not doing anything for the girl. It is just one of the numerous stories of many more Geetas who either lost their lives or are living under the dark shadowy consequences of child sexual abuse because of the lack of awareness.

The above story is true though the names of people have been changed because of the POCSO Act which makes sure that the identities of the abused and their families is kept secret.

Child sexual abuse encompasses exposure of children to nudity, touch and interaction with a sexual intent, their involvement in pornography and rapes.

Awareness is necessary to avoid it's harmful impact which leads to underdevelopment of the child mentally and emotionally and impairs their personality and confidence for entire lifetime.

Therefore we urge you to sign this petition and raise our voices collectively to the competent authorities to take every necessary step in spreading awareness regarding the prevention of children from sexual abuse.
