An Open Letter to the President of India.
Respect Shri Pranab Mukherjee
We have come to know through various news media that you will be visiting Ranchi, Jharkhand on 2nd April 2017 for laying the foundation stone of the proposed new cultural hub of the city named Rabindra Bhavan. We welcome your kind gesture in this respect.
However, we would like to enlighten you with certain facts about the proposed cultural hub named Rabindra Bhavan in Ranchi. The proposed building will be made on the land earmarked as an Open Space and Green Park in this city. It will be replacing the area of Bari Park, beside the present day Jaipal Singh Stadium used by people of Ranchi for various activity like morning walks, exercise, sports and also as an open green space.
The area known as Bari Park is very close to the people of Ranchi as it was made sometime in 1960s by the citizen of Ranchi by voluntary contribution of labour “shramdan” for a public cause on request of the Commissioner of Chotanagpur. Ever since then Bari Park been used by people of Ranchi as an open space and playground. This area is also designated as green area in master plan of the city.
However, the Government of Jharkhand, without considering the sentiments of public at large, is going ahead with converting the entire area into a concrete jungle with its proposed plans. This act of the Government will not only prevent Senior Citizens of Ranchi from morning walks, children from a central play ground but also add more pollution to already polluted environment of the city.
Your kind acknowledgement of our concerns and declining the Government of Jharkhand from laying the foundation stone of proposed Rabindra Bhavan on 2nd April, 2017, will be a strong step towards saving our parks and lakes and also create a better environment for our future generation.
Save Park. Save Lake. Save Environment.
