Past many years clinical psychologist have been registered under Rehabilitation council of India(RCI) along with sixteen other rehabilitation professionals. Ironically for clinical psychology rehabilitation is a part of the services rendered by them. But with no other choice our governing and licencing body is RCI for which we have paid a big price till date. With time multifold increase in mental health related problems with shortage of trained clinical psychologist many new RCI recognized institutions as offering professional training and trying to fulfill the demand. But there has been a big lacuna in terms of regulations as RCI is primarily dealing with rehabilitation needs so policies in the interest of clinical psychologist are lesser understood and implemented. Myself along with others from years are facing the repercussions despite doing sincere ethical practice especially being encroached by untrained self proclaimed clinical psychologist. Who is checking them?RCI has such a wide area to cover resultantly our justified rights are compromised. Who suffers the most? The already burdened individuals who face double trouble ,one of illness along with the extra baggage of untrained therapist. Undoubtly the reason being lack of uniformity in the regulation of training and practice of clinical psychology.
A separate regulatory body is need of the hour for not only people suffering from mental illness but for the young professionals taking up the noble profession dealing with human emotions.
Please join hands to raise a voice to safeguard our 'fraternity identity' and prevent the precious brain drain before its too late.
Please sign my petition in the interest of all those suffering from mental health issues and also to demarcate boundaries in other branches of psychology in larger interest of psychologist of India.
