Qualified Leaders, Regardless of Age, Deserve an Opportunity to Be President
There are nearly 75 million Americans between the ages of 21-34 — some of whom are creating billion dollar companies, leading social change, and spearheading medical research. Yes, real leaders doing real things to benefit us all.
But when it comes to leading the nation at its highest level, they run into a wall. Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 5 of the Constitution prohibits anyone under 35 from becoming president. That means they can’t even offer their leadership, no matter how powerful they might be.
It’s true. Many are not qualified, and many have no interest in pursuing office. But that is no different from people 35 and older. Why are we letting an arbitrary number chosen over 200 years ago prevent our nation from at least listening to ALL qualified leaders, regardless of age? It’s still a democracy; if the leader is not qualified, don’t vote for them. There’s absolutely no downside.
As a supporter of America and its endless possibilities, Captain Morgan believes that people under 35 present a fresh, innovative perspective on how we can tackle some of our nation’s greatest issues.
America is the land of opportunity. Let’s live up to it.
This is why we are seeking a change, and you should too. President Obama: Call on Congress to address the age requirement necessary to hold presidential office.
