Hello: Peoples, Condors, Eagles

We are writing as members of the world community, and as part of the Movimiento Cosecha family, a nonviolent movement fighting for the permanent protection, dignity, and respect for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. We are diverse and unified, documented and undocumented, workers and caregivers, parents and children, students and professors, doctors and nurses, artists and musicians. We are your neighbors, we walk your streets, work at your university and around your home. We are the people you ride the bus and train with, the people who care for your children, remove your trash, cook your food. We are those you do business with every day. We are comprised of those who are being directly impacted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) and by those who are witness to the atrocities that are being dealt by that agency -- the family separations, the raids and arrests, the drawn out detentions, the trauma, death, unethical deportations and other activities inflicted by ICE on our families and communities on a daily basis. We are united in our commitment to not be complicit and to strip ICE of its power to harm the 11 million undocumented people in this country and invite you to stand with us in challenging Northeastern University researchers, administrators, and decision makers to join us in this commitment.

Northeastern University’s standing contract with ICE makes them paid participants of ethnic cleansing. Contract aside, the continuation of Northeastern University’s relationship with ICE is an act of aggression toward undocumented peoples, wholly unacceptable, and morally reprehensible. Benefitting from alliances with ICE and organizations that provide their services to ICE amounts to being complicit in its heinous acts and is contradictory to the image that the university wishes to present.  Northeastern prides itself on claims of being a liberal university and an institution that fosters global citizenship. Just a few months ago, Northeastern joined other universities in filing an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court to challenge the Travel Ban. Yet, to engage in actions in support of immigrants while supporting the agency that actively oppresses them is at best hypocrisy. At worst, it conveys a message to the community that NEU is more concerned about a travel ban preventing tuition paying students from entering the US than justice and dignity for all immigrants. Paramount, are the 11 million undocumented living with the threat of genocide across the US. Only a full ban on any and all connections with ICE and organizations that provide their services to ICE would show NEU’s honest commitment to our community.

Any continued relationship with ICE and organizations that provide their services to ICE, regardless of the nature of intentions, is a decision that contradicts previous moral claims and places NEU on the wrong side of history. It is, no matter how you phrase it, collusion with ICE and its overall mission of ethnic cleansing. It places NEU as direct collaborator in the separation, detention, imprisonment, deportation, degradation, and criminalization of immigrants through the stripping of their rights, their human rights.

On behalf of the world community, in solidarity with current NEU resistance, and the 11 million undocumented people in the US, we demand that Northeastern University sever all contracts and relationships to ICE  and organizations that provide their services to ICE and make a fortified pledge to not seek or establish any relationships with ICE in the future.

We ask that NEU make a written and public statement that all relationships with ICE and organizations that provide their services to ICE are over, and insist that it takes all necessary steps to ensure that there will be no continued or future relationship of any kind between NEU and ICE  and organizations that provide their services to ICE.

Furthermore, to regain the trust of the directly affected community, the overall student body, and the community at large, we demand that NEU make restitution for its actions via the following:

Donating the money gained by your complicity with ICE and organizations that provide their services to ICE to immigrant rights organizations and immigrant student groups.
Providing services both on and off campus to the individuals and families affected by the actions of ICE and organizations that provide their services to ICE, such as the police and prison system.
Expanding support and/or resources for undocumented students on campus--  scholarships, legal access, etc.

As of today, September 5th, the start of the school year, Northeastern University has failed to both cease any and all nature of its relationship with ICE and neglects to release a public statement that satisfies the demands above. We at Movimiento Cosecha will now be:

Releasing attempts at communication with Northeastern President Joseph Aoun to the public and press. This includes the letter that has been redrafted to format this petition.
We will be initiating a campaign to call and email President Joseph Aoun and the foremost researcher who has benefitted from ICE funding, Glenn Pierce. (Information for “call in” will be in updates.)

We will intensify our resistance campaign within the Northeastern campus and in our community until the demands are met.

We are asking that you join us in resistance by sharing this petition and the accompanying call in information using your social media platforms. For more information on how to get involved and break the cycle of complicity, visit and/or
